Positive Affirmations for Self Esteem: Some Examples

  • I feel worthy as a person.
  • I feel good about myself and the way I do things.
  • I have compassion for myself.
  • I deserve all the good things in my life.
  • I am sure of my ability to do what is necessary to improve my life.
  • It is okay to make mistakes; I am able to give myself the benefit of the doubt.

Challenging Mistaken Beliefs or Negative Self Talk

You can challenge those negative thoughts and unhelpful beliefs by asking yourself the following questions:

  • What is the evidence for this?
  • Is this always true for me?
  • Does this belief look at the whole picture? Does it take into account both the positive and the negative?
  • Does this promote my well-being?
  • Did I choose this belief on my own? Or did it develop from experience?

At the same time, practicing positive affirmations can also help counter negative thinking. If you have never done this practice, one important aspect is to make sure they are definite statements and not qualified with “I will” or “I can”.  Instead, make them “I am” statements.

Positive Affirmations for Success

  • I am successful.
  • Everything I do turns into success.
  • I am filled with success.
  • I attract positive minded people to me.
  • I am fortunate to love what I do.
  • I draw all things positive to myself.

Remember: it’s important to put your oxygen mask on first. You can’t help someone else if you are gasping for air.

Taking Care of Yourself: Mind, Body Spirit

It is a good practice to check in with yourself to ensure that you are doing everything in your possibilities to maximize your well-being. It’s advisable to complete, at a minimum for each week, the following activities:

  • 1 activity for emotional support, like counseling or a  support group.
  • 1 activity for physical support, like walking or working out.
  • 1 activity for spiritual support, like prayer, meditation or inspirational reading.
  • 1 activity for intellectual support, like taking a class or learning something new.
  • 1 activity for social support, like spending time with a supportive friend or family member.

If you can build up to three times a week or daily, all the better. Additionally, if anxiety is concerning you, deep breathing exercises, meditation and progressive relaxation can help a lot. Moreover, learning to challenge negative thoughts and unhelpful beliefs is also helpful, not only for anxiety, but also for depression and your general well-being. And remember: just because you think something, it doesn’t mean it is true.

Finding ways of managing stress is key for overall mental and physical well being.
