What is it?

Chin wrinkles, also referred to as peau d’orange or ‘orange peel skin,’ develop as a result of repeated muscle movements coupled with the skin’s natural loss of elasticity as it ages. These wrinkles can be further accentuated by habitual facial expressions such as frowning or puckering of the lips.

The mental crease, known as the labiomental sulcus, is a horizontal crease beneath the lower lip and above the chin, formed by the chin’s mentalis muscle. It may appear as a single groove of varying depths or as multiple wrinkles or folds in some individuals.

While a deep or prominent mental crease is not harmful, it can be aesthetically concerning for some, as it may cast shadows on the chin, giving the illusion of a larger chin, and contribute to the perception of aging due to the deep lines it creates.
